Front of the Meter
(FTM) Solar solutions are used more commercially and at a larger scale. These can be offsite solar installations that feed into the power of the facility and can be transmitted and distributed. This allows for a facility to connect to the local power grid and generate its own power simultaneously. The benefit is that the power excess power can often be sold back to the grid provider or used in times of excess or grid failure, allowing the facility to maintain operations.
Behind the Meter
(BTM) Solar solutions are generally for small scale facilities and residences. This provides the buildings with an additional supply of energy that can be stored and used in times of excess capacity. In essence the solar system becomes a micro-grid that provides power to the buildings in a small closed system installed “behind” the power meter.
